Fight Plaque Build-up!

If you have teeth, then you probably have at least some plaque build-up, too. It isn’t easy to see it and it isn’t always easy to get it off, so having a cleaning and checkup at Rotem Dental Care in Toms River NJ every six months is a very good idea.

Plaque is a sticky film that is formed by bacteria and sugars, and coats the teeth. It’s a constant process; the stuff is always forming. That’s why you should brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day. It’s important to remove plaque because plaque is what causes cavities.

The best strategy for fighting plaque is to brush your teeth after every meal. That way, you get it as soon as it forms. We recommend that you use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a light touch. Hard bristles can be pretty rough on your gums.

Remember to toss your toothbrush out and get a new one every three months or so. Once the bristles start to bend out of shape they don’t work as well. It’s also important to hold the bristles at a 45-degree angle as you brush, and use gentle, circular strokes.

Two Minute Warning
Try to brush for two minutes! Some people find that challenging. You can use a timer to help, or listen to some music to take your mind off the brushing. That way the time will fly by, and you may even go beyond that two minute minimum.

Get inside and outside the teeth, and along the chewing surfaces, too. Don’t forget to brush your tongue. Your objective is to get your entire mouth.
