Maintaining Bone Density is Important as We Age
Vitamin C has been known as a necessity for normal bone development. Now, it is suggested, through a recent study, that Vitamin C also plays a role in maintaining healthy bone density.
Katherine Tucker, of Tufts University, conducted the study with a team of her colleagues. This study continued over a four year period with 231 men and 393 woman, all an average age of 75.
Older Men Respond to Vitamin C for Maintaining Bone Mineral Density
The results are in. Of the men who consumed the highest levels of Vitamin C, their bone mineral density (BMD) remained the same. In the woman tested, however, the findings were not “statistically” significant.
Why is this important to your teeth? Maintaining a healthy level of bone density helps prevention of gingivitis and this helps to maintain healthy gums. Healthy gums and strong bones translate to strong teeth with changes slim to none of loose or broken teeth through natural causes.
Eating calcium rich foods in as natural a form as possible can also contribute to bone density maintenance.
Natural Foods; Better for Your Teeth and Your Bones
In his book, Nutrition and Degeneration, Dr. Weston Price indicated that when native peoples ate traditional raw food diets, there was zero to almost no bone or tooth decay well into old age.
We don’t suggest you start ingesting ground-up animal bones and raw meats, but staying as close to natural food as possible is extremely helpful in maintaining healthy bone density and healthy teeth. The further away you move from the more natural form of food, such as processed foods, the faster your bones and teeth can deteriorate.
